The Role - Welding Inspector

Reporting to the Quality Manager the role of the Welding Inspector is to support both the requirements of the internal BMD Quality Management Systems and Client Specification Requirements.

Typical tasks include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure the Project Quality Management System is fully implemented.
  • Perform Quality Audits (internal and external).
  • Co-ordinate and inspect special processes including Welding, NDT & PWHT.
  • Manage NDT reports and radiographic films for review.
  • Review NDT Reports for accuracy to the specified standard.
  • Liaise with client third party representatives to co-ordinate inspections and tests.
  • Liaise with the onsite and OSM quality teams regarding inspection activities.
  • Review Weld Procedure Specifications (WPSs) and Welder Procedure Qualification Reports (WPQR's).
  • Ensure all welders are qualified to the correct welding procedures, prior to commencing on project work.
  • Inspect daily weld coupons and records.
  • Ensure welding consumable controls are in accordance with the Project Quality Plan.
  • Maintain original calibration certificates for all Inspection, Measuring and Test Equipment. Monitor and ensure re-calibration prior to expiry dates.
  • Complete recording of weld logs, weld Identification and weld numbers.
  • Raise Non-Conformances Reports (NCRs) when out of specification requirements are identified and support resolution and close out.

Person Specification

Education, Training & Experience

  • CSWIP Welding Inspection Qualification 3.1 - essential.
  • NDT PCN/SNT Qualification - essential.
  • Applicant must have an understanding of welding technology and be interested in the technical aspects of engineering codes and standards.
  • Desirable for applicant to have degree in Quality Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience of large multi discipline projects.
