The Role - Mechanical / Piping Foreman

Reporting to the General Foreman / Construction the Mechanical / Piping Foreman is a key member of the site team, with responsibility in ensuring the site works are delivered safely, on schedule and to the highest quality. The primary function of the Piping Foreman is to plan and organise all work elements required to complete works on site, including craft, plant & equipment, materials, access, risk assessments, client permits etc.

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Undertake full on-site responsibility for the day-to day management of Health and Safety in
  • the workplace.
  • Ensure work is carried out safely to industry, site and client specific safety requirements, this includes walking down works, reviewing RAMS/Method Statements and liaising with client representatives
  • Work with the Construction Manager and Project Engineer to develop a constructability plan and high-level schedule for the work.
  • Plan and organise all work activities, to minimise risk, by ensuring safe systems can be utilised.
  • Ensure before work commences on site, that craft have reviewed and signed all safety documentation associated with the task, including:  Method Statements, Risk Assessments, SPA’s & client work permits.
  • Issue defined work scopes to Chargehands and Craft, providing clear instructions in relation to the work practices required and follow up with on-site inspections, to ensure the work is being completed safely and to the highest quality.
  • Ensure that the daily site diary for craft activities are recorded.
  • Work closely with the BMD Labour recruitment team, to plan the mobilisation of craft workers to site.
  • Provide technical support to the craft and engineering team.  
  • Attend client / BMD, daily whiteboard coordination/planning meetings.
  • Ensure that the works are delivered efficiently within the budgeted manhours allowed for the project.
  • Ensure that all plant and equipment are certified and maintained for the works in their area.
  • Liaise with the Site Safety Advisor on all matters affecting site safety.
  • Manage client relationships in a collaborative fashion to ensure customer loyalty with BMD
  • Manage Sub-Contractors to ensure they are completing works safely to the highest quality on site. Typical subcontractor scopes include, insulation, scaffolding, painting, NDT, cleaning and passivation etc.
  • Completion of any other tasks assigned by the General Foreman / Construction Manager.

Person Specification
Education, Training & Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Supervision role - essential.
  • Worked as a Supervisor on mechanical construction projects in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Semi-conductor or Oil & Gas industry - essential.
  • Experience of supervising equipment installation, piping fabrication, piping installation and pressure testing on site - essential.
  • Have a trade or engineering qualification.
  • Good Computer skills in word, excel etc.
  • Proven record of co-ordinating and managing large projects.
  • Flexible to travel.
  • Fluent English.
